By saving money and increasing revenue the partnership could mean more money for the sport’s grassroots programmes
Table Tennis England has joined forces with pioneering new video solution, Recast, in a bid to attract new fans while increasing revenue to invest in the sport’s grassroots programmes.
The governing body is the latest in a growing list of pioneering rights’ holders who have chosen to stream and showcase exclusive content via the Over-The-Top (OTT) platform.
By joining Recast, Table Tennis England aims to drive new audiences to watch the governing body’s Junior National Championship, sponsored by Mark Bates Ltd, and other events whilst utilising their unique micropayment solution to generate income which will be reinvested into the sport, simply through fans’ viewership.
Table Tennis England Chief Executive, Sara Sutcliffe MBE, said: “The sports broadcasting landscape is evolving rapidly and we’re determined to be a part of that evolution.”
“Creating our own Over-The-Top platform would cost an organisation like ours a significant sum in operational and on-going costs, which we simply can’t afford. Recast provides that solution for free, and with its unique offering we will be able to monetise modern day viewership, in turn creating more funds to be invested back into the grassroots of our sport."
Table tennis clubs and players across the country will also have the opportunity to join Recast through the partnership and take advantage of the technology at club level for free - maximising revenue and raising the profile of the sport.
Andy Meikle, CEO and Founder of Recast, said: “It’s incredibly important to us to ensure that governing bodies and organisations of all sizes have access to technology which can be used to digitally transform their organisation - at no upfront cost to the rights holder or fans.
“I'm delighted that Sara and the Table Tennis England team will be using Recast as an end-to-end solution, from distributing clips to live streams and leading the way for other National Governing Bodies.”
The solution, which is provided to rights holders for free, allows fans to earn in-app credits by simply signing up, watching adverts, sharing content and inviting friends which will allow fans to watch their favourite content for free, while credits earned can be ‘cashed out’ by Table Tennis England.
Other partners going direct-to-consumer on the multi-sport, subscription-free app which provides dynamic content including live sport, highlights and behind-the-scenes footage to supporters include Hibernian FC and golf’s The European Tour, Manchester City FC and the World Parkour Championship.
Recast, which aims ultimately to be a global platform, is currently in open Beta in the UK and fans can become part of the community and support the growth of Table Tennis in England by signing up here
